Neil van Nierkerk Workshop II

Hi,

The Neil van Neikerk workshop which was held at the Portmarnock Hotel recently was a wonderful experience.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable day which was packed with useful information and practical sessions.  Neil has a fantastic ability to make learning easy with a relaxed presentation and style that comes from years of experience.  He was accompanied on the day by his assistant Jessica and with beautiful models Roz Purcell and Hannah Devane on hand, we could not ask for more.  We were also very lucky with the weather for the outdoors portrait sessions, and it held dry for the day with a soft light that made for some great shooting.
Neil displayed the on camera flash techniques for which he is justifiably regarded, as well as using video light for dramatic portrait lighting.  The Portmarnock Hotel provided some lovely locations for the sessions and we certainly distracted a lot of The All Ireland Football Final fans when they caught eye of the models.
Thanks especially to Liam Ramsell of Pro Foto Training for brining Neil to Ireland and organising the event so well.  It was amazing value and I could not recommend it highly enough.
I intend posting some shots from the workshop here and on my website in the coming weeks.

Portrait Session for Actor Kieran Roche

Hi,

I recently finished a portrait session with Kerry actor Kieran Roche who wanted some head-shots for his portfolio.  Kieran is a Tralee based actor who is working very hard on the theatre circuit.  He has been working with Kerry playwright Neil Flynn on such projects as The Hothouse at The Cork Arts Theatre.  He has also appeared in Sex, Relationships and Sometimes Love and All Things.  Kieran was great to work with and I really enjoyed the session.  I wish him every good luck and success in the future.

Neil van Niekerk Workshop

I am really looking forward to the Neil van Niekerk workshop in Dublin on Sunday September 18th 2011.  I have been a big fan of his work and missed the opportunity to attend on his last visit to Ireland.  I wasn't going to make the same mistake this time and jumped at the chance to get a place.  For anyone unfamiliar with Neil, check out his website which is always full of great advice and wonderful examples of his work.  

The workshop is being organised by Liam Ramsell of Pro Foto Training.

Causeway comprehensive School Debs Dance 2011

Hi,

It was another fantastic night photographing the students from Causeway Comprehensive School, Co. Kerry as they enjoyed their debs dance at Ballyroe Heights Hotel, Tralee.  I cant believe how fast another year has passed and that a new group of students are ready to face the world.  It was a wonderful night despite the wind and rain and it certainly did not dampen their enthusiasm.  Ballyroe Heights Hotel is a wonderful location and its always a joy to work there.  Many thanks to the hotel management and staff for their help on the night and to the Principal and Vice Principal of Causeway School for hiring me again to photograph this wonderful night.
Best of luck to the the students for the future.

Hopper Inn

I recently completed some photographs for David Barron of The Hopper Inn, Clashmealcon, Causeway, Co. Kerry for a new business website he is putting together.  David has finished a head to toe remodelling  of the accommodation at the Hooper Inn and it is very impressive.  They have a long held reputation for great food, drink and entertainment and with the new accommodation ready to go, they have the complete package.  On Sunday June 12th 2011 they are celebrating their 20th year in business with a big party, BBQ and live music.  If you are passing call in......

Siobhan And Pat Wedding

Hi,

I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Siobhan and Pat on Friday, April 29th at Curraheen Church, Tralee, Co. Kerry.  It was my first wedding in this church and it is a wonderful location which I hope to work in again.  There is a beautiful stained glass window that runs the height of the back wall and makes a lovely backdrop for portraits.
Pat owns a wonderful shop in Tralee called Utensils which stocks everything for the cook in your house.  He has a huge range of products available in the shop and online.
Best wishes to them for a wonderful happy life together.

Portraits of a TV star

I have just finished a portrait session with one of the stars of RTE's television series, The Clinic.  Tommy Fitzgerald appeared in several episodes of the popular drama and is a very busy young actor and filmmaker.  Tommy is originally from Lixnaw in County Kerry and I have known him and his family for many years.  He has his own website where you can keep up to speed with his latest projects.

Ger And Anne Wedding

Hi,

On Saturday January 8th 2011, I had the pleasure of photographing my friends Ger and Annes wedding.  They were married in Ballyheigue Church and the reception was held at The Ballyroe Heights Hotel in Tralee, Co. Kerry.
The church was full of family and friends of the couple and colleagues of Gers from ESB Moneypoint and Annes from Causeway Comprehensive School.
Due to the layout of the altar I was unable to see the couples faces from any location in the church and had to set up a camera on the altar facing them which I triggered with a wireless remote.  With this setup I was able to get shots of the couple with their guests in the background.
I took a series of available light shots of the couple in the church after they had finished meeting their guests.  I used the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR lens for these shots and it produces excellent results every time.  
We went to the beach in Ballyheigue on our way to the hotel to see if we could get some shots of the bridal party but it was far too windy.  I took a few shots just to say "we were there" but that was it.
We were treated to a fine meal and marvelous entertainment in the hotel afterwards and a wonderful day was had by all.  Felt a little under the weather in the morning, but it was worth it.
I wish Ger and Anne all the best for a very happy life together.

Family Wedding - John And Brid

Hi,

I had the great pleasure of photographing my Godson Johns wedding to Brid on December 30th 2010.  They were married in Kilruane, Co. Tipperary with their reception held in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh.  Thankfully the  bad winter weather was gone and it was a quite mild day in comparison to Christmas week.  The church was packed with friends and family for what was a very special day for us all.  It was my first time photographing a wedding in The Abbey Court Hotel and I found the stairs and layout of the hotel ideal for getting good shots of the couple.  I had a great time working which I then followed with a great time partying into the wee hours.  The only downside was I felt old as I remembered bouncing John on my knee a few short years ago.
They are a lovely couple and I wish them every health and happiness in the future.
